Catholic Life

The Catholic Life of our school, inspired by our School Mission statement, ‘On our road o success; Jesus is beside us.’ is one of the most important aspects of our school.  Please click on the links below to find out more about just some of the various activities and groups who are actively involved in shaping the mission of our school and in doing so are fulfilling ‘God’s mission here on Earth by making Christ known to all people’.

Our School Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, friend of all children,

Bless our school here in Lincoln,

Bless the pupils and the teachers who work in it,

Help us all to do our best,

Help us to be kind to one another and to be cheerful throughout this day.

Amen

Our Trust Prayer:

God Our Father, Give us strength so that guided by Our Lady’s example we can have the courage to say yes to you.  Help us to love like she loves, have faith like she has and follow Jesus example in all that we do.

Inspire in all of us a sense of togetherness so that we can use the gifts that you you have given us for the good of all in our community and bring support and healing to those less fortunate than ourselves.

We ask Our Lady to guide us, just as she guided St Bernadette, as we seek to bring Jesus’ message of love and forgiveness to others.

We ask this through Jesus Christ your Son, Our Lord.  Amen

Prayer And Liturgy Policy 2024 Our Lady’s

Prayer and Worship at Our Lady’s

Prayer and liturgy are central to Our Lady’s understanding of itself as a Catholic school, and this is reflected in the daily opportunities and worship planned, following a structure with reference to the Church’s seasons, The Religious Education Directory (RED), Come and See topics, Feast days and significant dates.

The Year of Jubliee: Pilgrims of Hope

‘In this time of preparation, I would greatly desire that we devote 2024, the year preceding the Jubilee event, to a great “symphony” of prayer.’ Pope Francis, 11 Feb 2022

The Pope has asked for 2024 to be devoted as a Year of Prayer. Below are some of the prayer opportunities children can access every day.

At Our Lady’s, we are fortunate to be served by the parish of Our Lady of Lincoln. The priests in our parish celebrate Mass during significant occasions and feast days within the liturgical calendar.

On most feast days and significant days in the liturgical calendar, the school attends Mass at Our Lady’s. This is a meaningful experience for the children, and parishioners have expressed how much they appreciate seeing the children actively participate in the Liturgy of the Word.

Visits to Our Lady’s Parish

During most key liturgical events and feast days, children from Our Lady’s join the parishioners for morning Mass. During Advent, Lent and Pentecost the older children will stay for the Sacrament of confessions, allowing them to reflect on their choices and seek forgiveness enabling them to prepare well for these Holy seasons in the Church.

Adoration

Each term, we are blessed to have an opportunity to visit our parish Church and join in Eucharistic Adoration . This provides pupils in key stage 2 with the opportunity to spend time in meditation and prayer with Jesus. This sacred time allows the children to converse with Jesus and deepen their relationship with Him.

Sacred spaces for prayer

The school has a designated sacred spaces; these sacred spaces allows children to access some time with God at any point during the day.

Catholic Social Teaching and Charity

Teaching children about global issues and encouraging them to see the world through other eyes is of huge importance. We aim at Our Lady’s to allow children to thrive in the progress of their knowledge of social justice to become in the future citizens with global awareness who seek justice and peace. We have embedded Catholic Social Teaching into our curriculum through our oracy project and have made links by adding big questions into the Science, Geography and History planning.

Children are also keen to commit to being global through fundraising events for charities like CAFOD, Macmillan Cancer Research, Help for heroes and Save the children.  Teachers support Catholic social teaching by making links to the children’s Religious Education programme.  Children regularly donate food items to the Local Foodbank as part of their Harvest celebration; families in our school community are supported through our school food bank.

Synod 2025

On Tuesday, 21st January 2025, we gathered with all the schools in the Our Lady of Lourdes Multi-Academy Trust for a meeting that was part of the ongoing synodal journey that began in 2021. This deeply spiritual and reflective process provided an opportunity for delegates to engage in listening to Scripture, sharing ideas, and building relationships. We left the meeting feeling inspired to share our knowledge and insights with other students within our Multi-Academy Trust.

One of the ideas we brought back was the creation of our own Eco Club. Mrs. Hyman has introduced the Eco Team to the school and is currently preparing activities and eco-focused initiatives for the academic year. This work is inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si’, which calls on us to care for our common home. As part of this initiative, students will be encouraged to find ways to improve the school grounds and adopt more environmentally friendly practices.

In November 2018, Bishop Patrick wrote a letter to be read out at all masses.  In his letter, Bishop Patrick outlined his three-fold vision for the next three years:  encounter, discipleship and missionary discipleship.

ENCOUNTER: Bishop Patrick would like to ensure that people of all ages in our parishes, schools, and chaplaincies are helped to discover, or discover more deeply, the importance of a personal ENCOUNTER with Christ; so that they can become convinced that they are each loved by God and are invited to grow in their relationship with him. In particular Bishop Patrick would like to see the development of times of Eucharistic Adoration in our parishes, schools and chaplaincies.

DISCIPLESHIP: With the personal encounter with Christ, Bishop Patrick would like to encourage each of us to hear and respond to his invitation to be his DISCIPLES, to follow him more closely, and to seek to serve him generously in our daily lives.

MISSIONARY DISCIPLESHIP:  With a greater recognition of, and openness to, the help, guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we can all become MISSIONARY DISCIPLES; faith-filled, joyful and outward-looking Christians who bear witness to His love in our service of our brothers and sisters, especially those most in need.

At Our Lady’s, the theme of ‘Encounter’ will be explored during the Advent term, ‘Discipleship’ during Lent and ‘Missionary Discipleship’ from Easter to Pentecost.

These spiritual themes will become more and more a living reality in school life and the faith journey of our children.   Please speak to your children about them and how we are making the Bishop’s vision come alive in our school.

At Our Lady’s we value our school virtues, which have been chosen by our school community.  The Virtues are deeply rooted in the gospels of Jesus Christ.

The Catholic Schools Pupil Profile which consists of several pairs of Values and Virtues, greatly supports our children’s spiritual, moral, vocational, social, and cultural development.

Virtues are celebrated and promoted widely within each class and the school.
