Our Governors

The appointing body for Governors is The Bishop of Nottingham for Foundation Governors and the parent body for elected parent governors or ‘Appointed by Foundation/Trust’.

Governors of schools oversee the management side of a school. They ensure strategy, policy, budgeting, and staffing are all organised in the best way possible to ensure smooth and effective running of the school.

A governing board is made up of a diverse group of people who bring a wide range of skills and expertise from their own lives (whether within education or beyond). They then use those skills to benefit the school. They also get involved in the wider school community, playing the role of a critical friend to the headteacher and other senior leaders.

Being a school governor is a truly rewarding experience. As a school governor, you give back and make a difference to the young people in the school you are a governor for.

You take some of the responsibility for how funds are spent, you help to hold the headteacher to account and you support the school with its strategic direction. It’s a big responsibility, but you will know that you are truly having an impact on the next generation, supporting them in their educational journey. There aren’t many more rewarding causes than that.

Being a school governor requires commitment. We are always looking for suitable people to join our local governing body. Governors come from several different backgrounds, in fact it is a strength of a team to have a variety of skills and experiences on the governing body. Governors give freely of their time; they are volunteers and are not paid for their involvement.

We need people who have.

  • a desire to improve our children’s education and to support the school
  • a certain level of commitment
  • a willingness to undergo training
  • to be able to get along with colleagues
  • a sense of humour
  • to be in sympathy with the ethos of the school
  • to get involved with the life of the school

Message from our Governors

‘Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Primary School is a living and caring community, an extension of the home and an integral part of the Catholic Community.’

The Governing Body at Our Lady of Lincoln firmly believe that children are at the heart of our school and every child matters.   We are proud of our inclusive philosophy and thoroughly enjoy being an active members of a dedicated team who strive for the best for our children in a safe and caring environment.

Our school mission statement celebrates the uniqueness of each person.  The distinctive nature of our Catholic school incorporates this ethos.

As governors, we share the high expectations with all staff and strive to continually improve and raise standards.

As a school we are committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Our website will hopefully provide the necessary information to parents about how the school is run and the aims and expectations we have set ourselves. Unfortunately pen and paper cannot get across to the reader the friendly, supportive and positive atmosphere that our school possesses.

Going around the school you see and hear pupils eager to learn and to express their ideas and this is of course down to the quality of our teachers. The school is blessed by a teaching team that is experienced, highly enthusiastic and very supportive of children and each other. We therefore believe we are part of a happy confident school that is ready to nurture the developing talents of your children on their first and crucial step along their educational ladder.

I hope our website answers many if not all of your questions, but the school is always happy and willing to answer any concerns or queries you may have.

The Local Governing Body (the LGB), has a key role to play in the governance and accountability framework in place in our CMAT (The Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Multi Academy Trust) The LGB is a committee of the CMAT Board of Directors; its role is to understand how the school is being led and managed and to be the ‘eyes and ears’ of the CMAT Board, monitoring how well the school is progressing. The LGB is responsible to the Bishop of Nottingham for ensuring that the Catholic character of the school is preserved and that links between the local/parish community and the CMAT Board of Directors are developed.

Meet Our Governors

My name is Jim Landers. I am very honoured to be the Chair of Governors at Our Lady of Lincoln School. I am quite new to the governing body. I was a primary school teacher for many years, during that time served as a teacher governor and as a foundation governor. As governors, we all bring our own skills and experience to the governing body. I believe that my knowledge and experience in education gives me an in depth understanding of how schools are run and the issues that face them today.  I am very approachable, and I am looking forward to meeting many of you in the near future.

I am Pam Barnes.  I had the great honour of being appointed to the Board of Our Lady of Lincoln School in 2015. I have lived and worked in Lincoln since 1996.  My husband and I have two adult sons and one (very lively) grandson. I have spent the whole of my working life in education. I am now seeking to use the skills and competences I learnt during that time to contribute to the life and community of the school. It is both a pleasure and a privilege to visit the school and meet the children. They are amazing and never fail to surprise.

My name is Theresa Inman. I have been a member of Our Lady of Lincoln Parish since 1969 and I am honoured to serve the school as a Foundation Governor and to be given the opportunity to work with the wonderful pupils and Staff from our school.

My name is Kayleigh Wells and I have recently joined the Governor team as a Parent Governor. I was a pupil at Our Lady’s and now have a daughter in School. I currently work with Schools and Governing Boards in Lincolnshire and intend to use the knowledge and skills I have developed in my day job to support our fantastic School.
